Just your run-of-the-mill, ordinary, simple, nine-hour project

You know how something in your house will be easy to fix, but ends up that everything goes wrong and that little job becomes a major stress obstacle? Well, I had one of those “little things” that became a nightmare.

Two people were working on it; one had patience and I’ll just say the other didn’t since I can’t think of a word to describe an “explosive human.”

I had a hot water heater leaning on the wall of an inside closet with rotted floors. It was not a pretty sight but we were hoping it wouldn’t take long. All we had to do was drain the hot water heater, get it out of the closet, remove the rotten wood, replace the floor, put the hot water heater back and do another major problem that should be simple to fix later like a corner hole in a ceiling.

Things went okay, but the rotten wood wasn’t all coming up easy, so a reciprocating saw was the answer to our problem. It was plugged in and maybe ten seconds passed and sparks flew scaring me and the person holding the saw. It turned out that was the location of an electrical wire.

With the saw set aside, the man who had been charged up a little was not in the most pleasant state of mind, but the second one helping fixed the wire and got that setback taken care of.

Keep in mind, these two people were neither plumbers or electricians. They were kind enough to help where I could save money to apply toward my ceiling and other plumbing problems.

Needless to say, there were little things that didn’t go right but progress was being made – just a few cuts to go where the corner was needing room to lay right.

I heard the man using the saw talking to himself and he wasn’t pleased. I knew it was something bad. It turned out I was 100 percent correct. He had sawed the gas line in two. Fortunately, we didn’t have the gas on.

The other man had to be frustrated, but it wasn’t noticeable. He seemed calm and he repaired the gas line. It took all day but all ended well. My floor looked good and the hot water heater was no longer leaking.

The next day I had a small problem, but it should be easy to fix. Maybe a valve can be purchased. If not, I’ll need a new hot water heater, but, hey, they are no trouble to put one in, right?
