Pilgrim's Pride among Farm-City honorees

Franklin County’s largest employer was honored last Monday at the annual Franklin County Farm-City Banquet for its contribution in community development in and around Franklin County.

Pilgrim’s representatives Jose Guerrero and Laura Lou accepted the award on behalf of the company for its high-level collaborative efforts with Franklin County residents, community and charitable organizations.

Pilgrim’s sponsored a sanctioned barbecue cookoff at this year’s Franklin County Watermelon Festival. The company held a community picnic and honored its employees with at least 25 years of service with a banquet this spring.

“Pilgrim’s has been very good to cooperative extension this year,” said Franklin County Extension coordinator Katernia Cole-Coffey.

Guerrero said the company has made a concentrated effort to become more involved within the community.

“We are truly blessed to be part of this company,” he said. “We are not a chicken plant. We are a poultry processing plant. And we want to be an integral part of this community. Our mission is to bring pride to what we do and who we are.”

Pilgrim’s employs approximately 1,200 employees at its Russellville plant.
