'Scramble for a Cure' set for May 5th at Twin Pines

After her mother died from liver cancer last May, Kassidy McCorkle decided to take action and get involved.

She used the loss of her mother, Dana Lawler McCorkle, as motivation to begin fundraising for cancer research. McCorkle will host the inaugural “Scramble for a Cure” golf tournament at Twin Pines Country Club on May 5, 2017.

Proceeds from the tournament will benefit UAB Hospital Comprehensive Cancer Center research through their Fund for Excellence that helps with the cost of high priority equipment and research grants.

“I have seen the devastating effects that cancer has on its victims and their support systems,” McCorkle said. “I want to do all that I can to prevent others from having to go through the pain and suffering caused by cancer.

“The sole purpose of this tournament is to help raise money for cancer research in hopes that it will help many people who are fighting a tough battle with cancer and finding a cure in the future,” she added.

Start time on May 5 for the tournament is 8:30 a.m. Participants are asked to arrive 30 minutes before their designated tee time. Check-in will be located inside the pro shop. Lunch will be provided by Twin Pines Country Club.

There will be cash prizes and gift cards for the first, second and third place winners of each flight.

Entry fee for the three-man teams is $210 and the deadline for pre-registration is April 14, 2017. Checks can be made to “Scramble for a Cure.”

Sponsorships are also available for the event, including Platinum, Gold and Silver level.
