Personnel moves highlight board meeting

The Russellville City Board of Education approved a number of personnel moves at its Thursday board meeting, including accepting the resignation of Russellville High School boys varsity golf coach Ryan Brewer.

Brewer, along with his wife Katie, a teacher at Russellville Middle School, both resigned, as did Cody Sellers, RHS teacher, and Alice Kimbrough, RMS teacher.

Other personnel moves approved by the board included:
-- Reinstatement of sick leave for Judy Putman, CNP worker at West Elementary, for an on-the-job injury.

-- Retirement: Rhonda Lier, RHS teacher; Regina Woods, RMS teacher; Nancy Meeks, RMS teacher and Carole Fowler, RHS Aide.

-- Resignation in supplement: Angela Crittenden, RHS Majorette sponsor.

-- Employment in supplement: Roxanne Bowles, RHS Majorette sponsor.

-- Employment in Position: Wayne Wilkes, drivers education teacher RHS; Jess Smith, social science teacher RMS; Mason Willis, career prep teacher RMS and Whitney Glover, science teacher at RMS.

-- Transfers: Cassie Goodwin, from technology facilitator at RES to library media specialist at WES; Malory Kincaid, instructional coach at RES to teacher at RMS; Monica Farris, EL teacher/parent/school resource specialist at RES to RES/WES and Paige Hargett, RES teacher to attendance aide at RHS.

-- Involuntary transfer: Sommer Pounders, media specialist at WES to teacher at RES.

-- Athletic consultant: Jess Smith to be a pro consult for the JV, 9th grade and RMS baseball teams. Maximum payment shall be $700, payable by the baseball booster club.

In other board action:
-- Bret Gist was elected president and Judy Pounders president-elect.

-- Trip requests were approved for the RHS baseball team to attend team camp at Auburn University June 12-15 and RES 5th grade students to travel to Washington, D.C., May 2-5, 2018.

-- Facility use requests were approved for RHS facilities on August 19, 2017, for the Watermelon Run. Request by RHS Marching Hundred; RHS facilities on Sept. 30, 2017, for Northwest Alabama Marching Classic. Request by RHS Marching Hundred; RHS Fine Arts Center and Auditorium on January 12-13, 2018, for Northwest Alabama Honor Band. Request by RHS  Marching Hundred; RHS Fine Arts Center and Auditorium on Feb. 16-17, 2018, for ABA District III Honor Band. Request by RHS Marching Hundred.

The next regular meeting will be Thursday, June 29, at 3:30 p.m., with work session Monday, June 26, at 3:30 p.m.
