Florence fireworks event cancelled; Massive crowd expected in Russellville

With the announcement Monday that the Fourth of July Spirit of Freedom Celebration has been cancelled, a record crowd is expected in Russellville for the ninth annual Jam on Sloss Lake.

Organizers of the Florence event attributed its cancellation to “lack of sponsorship support and ecomomic conditions.”

The day-long event in Russellville begins with the Cotton Flats Cruisers Car Show from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Morning music lineup includes: Buford Parker at 8:30; Jacob Green at 9:40; Southbound at 10:50; Kerry Gilbert Band at 12 p.m.

Car show awards and prizes will be given away from 1:15-2 p.m.

The evening music lineup features Still Here from 4-4:50, Purpose from 5-5:50, Rewind from 6:05-7, Joseph Baldwin from 7:15-8:10 and country legend Joe Diffie from 8:30-9:30.

Fireworks will follow the concert. The event has free admission and will feature inflatables for kids, food vendors and much more.

The Jam on Sloss Lake is sponsored by the City of Russellville, the Russellville Electric Board, the Russellville Water & Sewer Board and the Russellville Gas Board.
