Worley to headline Jam at Sloss Lake

The search for this year's featured act at the Jam at Sloss Lake stopped in Savannah, Tenn., as City of Russellville officials announced Savannah's favorite son, country music star Darryl Worley, as the 2018 headliner.

The ninth annual Jam on Sloss Lake will take place Wednesday, July 4th. The event will feature a day of free musical entertainment, and will culminate with a fireworks show set to begin around 9:45 p.m.

The day will begin with the Cotton Flats Cruisers Car Show and will continue with day-long entertainment, vendors and activities for children. The festivities take place on the west side of Sloss Lake near the Lee Sports Complex.

The Jam on Sloss Lake is jointly sponsored by the City of Russellville, the Electric Board of the City of Russellville, the Russellville Gas Board and the Russellville Water and Sewer Board.

Worley's performance will close out a full day of music. The Midnighters will open for Worley Wednesday evening.

We're excited to have talent the level of Darryl Worley for people to enjoy at this year's Jam on Sloss Lake,” said Russellville city councilman Gary Cummings, whose vision for a Fourth of July celebration in Russellville began the annual event. “We want this to be a special day for Russellville and north Alabama.”

Worley is known for his philanthropic efforts, including the Darryl Worley Foundation, which has raised more than $2 million for community programs in Tennessee in and near his hometown. Worley's efforts led to the opening of the Darryl Worley Cancer Treatment Center in Savannah in 2010. The facility provides state-of-the-art cancer treatment right in the heart of small-town Savannah.

Worley's six country albums produced 18 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, including three number ones: I Miss My Friend, Have You Forgotten and Awful, Beautiful Life. Have You Forgotten enjoyed a seven-week run as the number one song.

Worley's other hits include A Good Day to Run, Tennessee River Run, Second Wind, If Something Should Happen, I Just Came Back From a War and Sounds Like Life To Me.

Worley's most recent release, Lonely Alone, debuted in November of 2017.
