Sweet Tea Trio returning to Russellville as Watermelon Festival headliner

When this year’s headliner for the Franklin County Watermelon Festival comes to town, it won’t be their first visit to Russellville.

The Sweet Tea Trio was announced last Friday as the headliner for Saturday night’s musical lineup on August 18.

The trio of Savannah Coker, Kate Falcon and Victoria Camp won the 2014 Alabama Country Music Showdown as part of a nationwide talent contest locally sponsored by WGOL-FM of Russellville. Sweet Tea won the local event in Russellville and went on to capture the title for the states of Alabama and Georgia.

Sweet Tea has opened for Lonestar, Tracy Lawrence, Scotty McCreery, Diamond Rio, Shenandoah and others. They had nine arena dates with Kid Rock in 2017 and have opened for Bon Jovi in Birmingham as well. And they opened for the supergroup Alabama this year.

The Sweet Tea Trio is managed jointly by Kid Rock and Ken Levitan, founder and head of Vector Management.

The trio’s self-titled EP debuted on the i-Tunes country chart at 11 last June. The six-song EP includes two originals.

All three members are Alabama natives. Coker grew up in the Birmingham area, Camp in Northport and Falcon in Gadsden. The trio is now based in Nashville.

The entertainment lineup for Friday, August 17 includes the Midnighters at 6 p.m., followed by Rewind at 7 p.m. At 8:30 p.m., 7 Bridges, an Eagles tribute band, will headline Friday’s show.

Saturday evening entertainment will begin on the main stage at 5 p.m. with the Kerry Gilbert Band, followed by the L.A. Outlaws at 6 p.m., the Joseph Baldwin Band at 7 p.m. and the Sweet Tea Trio headlining the Saturday lineup at 8:30 p.m.
