Mason Bragwell scored a season-high 23 points for Belgreen on Monday night, and the Bulldogs dominated the second quarter on their way to remaining unbeaten with a 70-53 win over visiting Colbert County.
The Indians got eight points apiece from guards Dallis Acklin and Duke Taylor in the first quarter, building an early 18-14 lead. Belgreen (2-0) responded by out-scoring Colbert County 20-6 in the second quarter to take a 10-point lead into the locker room.
Bragwell, a 6’5 junior post player, led the second-quarter charge with nine points on his way to scoring in double-figures for the 31st consecutive game dating back to last season.
The Bulldogs still led by ten at 46-36 before out-scoring the Indians 24-17 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Bragwell, Payton Scott, Jake Taylor and Seth Taylor each scored four points in the final quarter, and Jacob Mayberry and Gaven Taylor combined to go 4-for-4 from the foul line.
Junior guard Brant Bragwell knocked down a pair of first-quarter threes and finished the night with 18 points, matching his output from a season-opening win over Red Bay on November 17. Mayberry added nine points on Monday, and Seth Taylor scored six. Scott, Jake Taylor and Eli Hiser finished with four each.
Taylor scored 17 points to lead Colbert County. Acklin, who was ejected in the second quarter, finished with eight.
The Bulldogs have won their first two games despite making a total of just three three-pointers and shooting just 57 percent from the foul line. They were 18-for-30 from the line on Monday night.
Belgreen’s trip to Fayette County on Tuesday night has been cancelled due to Fayette still being in the football playoffs. The Bulldogs will return to action at home against Sheffield on Friday night.

Colbert County 76 Belgreen 35
The Lady Bulldogs trailed by just five points after one quarter on Monday but couldn’t sustain their strong start against Class 3A contender Colbert County.
Senior guard Jasmine Martin scored eight first-quarter points for Belgreen, keeping the Lady Bulldogs within striking distance at 23-18. They managed just 17 points the rest of the way, however, trailing 43-25 at the half and 57-30 at the end of the third quarter.
Martin went 4-for-5 from the line and finished with nine points to lead Belgreen. Emma Dempsey and Ansley Tate each had five points, and Gabbie Moore, Katie Dempsey and Gracie Dempsey added four points apiece. Camie Terrell and Autumn Bragwell each scored two.
Madison Newsome and Nasjah Qualls each had 16 points to lead Colbert County.
Belgreen will return to action at home Friday against Sheffield.
