Vina’s girls continued their strong start to the season on Tuesday night, pushing their win streak to six with a 66-27 rout of visiting Hackleburg.
Sarah Johnson scored eight of her team-high 15 points in the first quarter, helping the Lady Red Devils (7-1, 1-0 in Class 1A, Area 13) race out to an early 28-7 lead. Senior point guard Abby Hester handed out seven assists in the first quarter, and Emma Humphres, Kaitlyn King and Kaleigh Vandiver each knocked down a three-pointer.
Eighth-graders Sarah Scott and Abbie Petree scored four points apiece in the second quarter, helping Vina extend the lead to 43-16 by halftime. The Lady Devils led by 30 at 53-23 at the end of three quarters and coasted to an easy win.
Hester finished with 10 points and 11 assists, posting her sixth double-double of the season in eight games. Vandiver had nine points and 10 rebounds on the night, and King, Scott and Rayleigh Guin each added eight points. Petree scored six points, and Humphres finished with four points and a team-high 12 rebounds.
Vina will travel to Brilliant on Thursday night before returning to area play with a game at Phillips on Saturday morning at 11 a.m.
