Vina girls score season-high 87 points, roll to seventh straight win

Eighth-grader Rayleigh Guin scored a career-high 20 points for Vina on Thursday, and senior Abby Hester posted her second triple-double of the season as the Lady Red Devils rolled past Brilliant 87-52 for their seventh straight win.
 
Guin and sophomore Kaitlyn King each scored eight points in the first quarter, helping Vina (ranked No. 9 in Class 1A) jump out to a 33-10 lead. Hester had six points and seven assists in the huge first quarter, and junior Emma Humphres knocked down two threes and scored seven points.
 
King hit a pair of threes in the second quarter and scored eight more points, helping the Lady Red Devils (8-1) carry a 51-30 lead into the locker room. King finished the night with a game-high 23 points, shooting 3-for-6 from beyond the arc and 4-for-4 from the foul line.
 
Hester finished with 17 points, 12 assists and 10 steals, going 7-for-9 from the foul line. Through nine games, she is now shooting 87 percent (81-for-93) from the line.
 
Guin shot 10-for-15 from two-point range on the night to finish with her 20 points. Humphres posted a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. She was 3-for-5 from beyond the arc.
 
Vina led 73-46 after three quarters, and Sarah Johnson, Sara Scott and Abbie Petree all chipped in baskets in the fourth quarter. Johnson finished with six points, and Scott grabbed a team-high 12 rebounds to go with her five points. Petree scored two points, and Kaleigh Vandiver added one.
 
The Lady Red Devils (1-0 in Area 13) will travel to Bear Creek on Saturday for an area battle and Top 10 showdown with No. 8 Phillips. Tip-off is scheduled for 11 a.m.
