Mason Bragwell matched his season-high with 23 points on Friday, and Brant Bragwell added 19 as Belgreen overcame a slow start to remain unbeaten with a 73-56 homecoming win over Sheffield.
The Bulldogs (3-0) trailed 20-14 at the end of one quarter before out-scoring Sheffield 22-12 in the second to take a four-point lead into the locker room. Brant Bragwell and senior guard Jacob Mayberry led the second-quarter charge, combining for 13 points.
Belgreen controlled the third quarter as well, out-scoring the visiting Bulldogs 17-7 to open up a 53-39 lead. Brant Bragwell and Mason Bragwell then scored six points apiece in the fourth quarter to help Belgreen seal the deal.
The Bulldogs shot 24-for-31 from the foul line in the win, their third in a row over a higher-class opponent to open the season. Mason Bragwell, a 6’5 junior post player, shot 5-for-6 from the line and scored 11 points in the first quarter, keeping Belgreen close. He finished the night 7-for-8 from the line and added eight two-point field goals.
Brant Bragwell, a junior guard, also shot 7-for-8 from the line and made a pair of threes on his way to setting a new season-high with his 19 points. Mayberry finished with 14 points, and senior Payton Scott added five. Jake Taylor went 4-for-4 from the line and scored four points, and Seth Taylor and Eli Hiser had three points apiece. Gaven Taylor added two.
