Darby Elliott reached a career milestone on Monday night, helping Phil Campbell’s girls reach Hanceville with a 90-42 sub-regional rout of Area 11 runner-up Cleveland.
Elliott, a senior guard, scored a game-high 20 points, hitting the 1,000-point mark for her career on a basket with 6:12 remaining in the fourth quarter.
Elliott scored four points in the first quarter, and sophomore guard Kallie Allen had nine as the Lady Bobcats (24-5) used a 16-0 run to open up a 24-5 lead at the end of one.
Junior post player Abby Davis put up 11 points in the second quarter, helping Phil Campbell out-score Cleveland 25-15 to take a 49-20 lead into the locker room.
The Lady Bobcats posted another 25-point quarter in the third, with Elliott accounting for 10 points, Davis scoring five and Kaci Harris knocking down a three.
Davis finished with 19 points, hitting one three and going 4-for-6 from the foul line. She surpassed the 1,300-point mark for her varsity career and now has 1,304. Elliott had nine steals to go with her 20 points, and Allen finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Harris scored seven points, and Dakota Elliott, Caitlynn Mills and Carley Nix added six apiece. Chloe Roberson and Olivia Taylor each finished with five, and Emily Swinney had two.
Phil Campbell, ranked No. 4 in Class 2A by the ASWA, has won 14 straight games heading into Thursday’s Northwest Regional semifinal showdown with No. 3 Mars Hill (23-8).
