Porter pitches Pirates past Phil Campbell

Toby Porter struck out 11 in a two-hit shutout for Winfield on Tuesday, leading the Pirates past Phil Campbell 6-0.

Senior ace Peyton Thomas pitched well for the Bobcats (8-3) but took his second straight loss. Thomas (1-2) had a shutout through three innings and then retired the first two batters in the bottom of the fourth before a pair of errors by Phil Campbell paved the way for Winfield to score three times and grab a 3-0 lead.

Thomas did not allow an earned run in his five innings, striking out six and walking one. He gave up six hits and threw 96 pitches, 64 of which were strikes.

Porter was even better, allowing a double to Thomas and a single to Chase Hutchens and nothing else. The senior walked three and threw 116 pitches, including 76 strikes.

Thomas was 1-for-2 with a walk, and Hutchens was also 1-for-2.

The Pirates scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away and finished with 10 hits.
