Practicing what he preaches, Russellville Mayor David Grissom plans to be among the many local residents taking part in Thursday's “Spend $22 in Russellville Day,” set for December 22nd.
Grissom came up with the promotion last year as a way to encourage local residents to spend at least $22 with a Russellville business on December 22nd as part of a concentrated effort to promote shopping right here at home.
The promotion came after Grissom consulted with Franklin County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Cassie Medley and Russellville City Schools Superintendent Heath Grimes, both of whom promoted the event to local businesses and families.
Heather Willis, Lizzy Claire owner, said she appreciated the effort by local officials to promote local businesses.
“It really helps to have our local leaders encouraging people to shop at home. It's something that really can make a difference in our community,” Willis said.
Grissom signed a proclamation on Monday declaring Thursday “Spend $22 in Russellville Day,” something he said could lead to as much as a 60% increase in local revenue on Thursday.
“It's just a fresh take on an idea done many years ago with the Chamber of Commerce on December 20th as part of a county-wide effort. We're planning to continue our local shop at home effort into next year,” Grissom said.
“When you spend dollars at home, they turn over several times in the local economy. That benefits our entire city, all our city departments and our local school system as well,” he added.
