Meet the Staff

John Pilati
I am the Publisher of the Franklin Free Press. Along with former editor Jason Houston, I founded the paper in 2006. I am in charge of day-to-day operations of the newspaper as well as WGOL-920, my family’s locally-owned radio station.
I am a 1989 graduate of the University of Texas at Austin, where I hold a Journalism degree. Additionally, I am a 1992 graduate of the University of Alabama School of Law. My parents are Karl and Jimmie Pilati of Russellville.
I am an avid sports fan and enjoys adventure and wildlife travel. I live on Upper Bear Lake in Phil Campbell, Al.

Originally from Ohio, I live here in Russellville. I graduated from the University of North Alabama with a degree in Graphic Design. My wife of 18 years is Dana and we have one child, Nicholas, 11.

Brady Petree
I am the Executive Editor of the Franklin Free Press and I am a native of Tharptown, AL. I am a graduate of Athens State University with a degree in Social Science and a minor in Political Science.
I am a baseball fanatic and host of 'On Deck', on WGOL-FM 100.7. I am also the host of the 'Football Friday Tailgate Show', that airs every Friday night in the fall beginning in August on WGOL as well.

Christian Medina
I am the Photographer and Office Assistant of the Franklin Free Press. I am a senior at Russellville High School.
I enjoy all things photography. Currently, I am a freelancing photographer in the Franklin County area. I have shot for multiple events: Velcro Pygmies Concert, Miss RHS 2020, and numerous Russellville football games.
My family comes from Chicago so we all love watching Cubs baseball. Another sport I enjoy is Ultimate Frisbee. My friends and I try to play every week.
