A number of actions were taken Tuesday night at the Russellville City Council meeting, including the council naming a temporary street superintendent.
Shannon Wilson, an equipment operator, was named the temporary Street Superintendent for the City of Russellville by unanimous approval. Wilson replaces Roy Price who retired as Street Superintendent on January 1, 2017. Price had worked for the street department for over two decades before announcing his retirement.
According to Russellville Mayor David Grissom, Wilson will serve as Street Superintendent until the council decides to open the vacancy up. The position may be held temporarily for up to six months.
“I’d just like to thank Mayor Grissom and the city council for giving me the opportunity to serve in this role and help the people of Russellville,” Wilson said.
Another item on the agenda – a late addition item – was the approval for the mayor to accept a grant for the Russellville Police Department. The Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs (ADECA) grant, which amounts to $9000, will be used to purchase tasers for the police department.
