On May 11, proud parents, grandparents and other relatives gathered in the Russellville City Schools Auditorium to watch Russellville High School’s class of 2017 receive dozens of scholarships and awards.
Thursday night was Russellville High School’s annual Senior Awards Program. Throughout the program, soon-to-be-graduating seniors walked across the stage to be recognized and rewarded by several universities and colleges, local businesses and organizations, endowed scholarship and non-profit foundations, and others.
The RHS class of 2017 received scholarships from the University of Alabama, Auburn University, Mississippi State University, Martin Methodist College, Troy University, Delta State University, the University of North Alabama, Northwest-Shoals Community College, Huntingdon College, Faulkner University, the University of Alabama in Birmingham, the University of South Alabama and the University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Eight Golden Tiger student athletes received athletic scholarships from Auburn, Troy, Martin Methodist, Delta State and Huntingdon College.
First time scholarships were also presented. The Wyman Pounders Memorial Scholarship, given in memory of the late Russellville Police Department captain and school resource officer, was awarded to Maria Bahena and Lariza Garcia Delgado.
