RCS Board approves personnel moves

Nine personnel moves were approved by the Russellville City Board of Education at a short meeting Thursday afternoon.

The board unanimously approved:

--Temporary Employment: Kevin Barnwell, Lenita McDaniel and Justin Chandler as 21st CCLC Teachers (part-time and as needed).

--Employment in Position: Irene Howard, science teacher at Russellville High School, contingent upon issuance of Alabama teaching certificate; Justin Vallejo as math teacher at RMS; Casey Guynn as math teacher at RMS and Tessa Benford as science teacher at RMS.

--Employment in Supplement: Donna Sykes as Robotics team assistant.

--Resignation in Position: Brianne Roberts, RMS teacher.

In other moves, the board:

--approved meal prices for the Child Nutrition Program for the 2017-18 school year as follows: Employee lunch prices, $3.50; Employee breakfast at RHS, $1.25; Visitor breakfast, $1.50; Visitor lunch, $4; Breakfast and lunch for students will be free under the Community Eligibility Program.

The Child Nutrition Program will also furnish food service to a child care center Community Action-Head Start, provide after school snacks for the Chucky Mullins Center After School Care Program and breakfast and lunch for the Special Programming for Achievement Network, or SPAN, through the Department of Youth Services at First United Methodist Church.

--accepted low bids for bread for the 2017-18 school year with a three-year rollover clause from Flowers Bakery and the low bid for ice cream from Purity Dairy.

--approved a one-year rollover on the existing milk contract with Purity Dairy.

--heard a report from Superintendent Heath Grimes expressing his appreciation to Dr. Tim Guinn, Doris Vincent and Cheryl Bennett for handling school enrollment through the central office this summer. In past years, enrollment was done at each school. Grimes said the centralization of enrollment allowed principals more time to get ready for the upcoming school year.

The next regular scheduled meeting of the Russellville City Board of Education is set for Thursday, August 24, with work session on Monday, August 21.
