The Franklin County Community Development Commission met February 26th and approved a number of grants to local schools and non-profit agencies.
The commission, which includes Brad Bolton, Jeremy Campbell, Chris Wallace and Charlene Fancher, meets quarterly to review grant applications. The next meeting of the commission will be April 23, 2021, at 8:30 a.m., at the Red Bay City Hall.
Any grant request for that meeting must be received by a member of the commission on or before April 16th at noon.
With the most recent grants, more than $2.180 million has been returned to Franklin County since the inception of the funding. The funds come from in lieu of tax payments from the Tennessee Valley Authority.
The Franklin County Legislative delegation, Sen. Larry Stutts, Rep. Proncey Robertson and Rep. Jamie Kiel, each make an appointment to the commission to represent them.
Grant awards for the February 26th meeting included:
--$309.60 to the Red Bay News for annual report publication.
--$5,000 transfer to the Future Economic Development Fund.
--$800 to Tharptown High School for purchase of scientific calculators.
--$2,500 to Red Bay Youth Basketball for purchase of electric zip crank height adjuster.
--$800 to Tharptown High School for purchase of 15 Chromebooks.
--$2,500 to Red Bay High School softball for field and facility updates and repairs.
--$800 to Phil Campbell Elementary School for purchase of Chromebooks for Ms. Boyles' second grade class.
--$800 to Phil Campbell Elementary School for purchase of Chromebooks for Ms. Cooper's second grade class.
--$800 to Phil Campbell Elementary School for purchase of Chromebooks for Ms. Champion's second grade class.
--$800 to Belgreen Elementary School for purchase of tablets with cases.
--$5,000 to Phil Campbell High School baseball for purchase of mower.
--$3,200 to Russellville Fire Department for purchase of three desktop computers.
--$2,500 to Tharptown High School for purchase of ice machine in gym.
--$500 to Community Action of Northwest Alabama for Meals on Wheels.
--$1,125 to Belgreen High School Athletic Programs for uniforms and equipment.
–$1,900 to the Place of Grace for expenses for transportation, self-help items and facilities.
--$500 to Belgreen High School boys basketball for final four appearance expenses.
--$1,500 to the Franklin County Dive Team for equipment purchases.
