Voters urged to verify which BOE district they reside in

Alabama's primary elections are set for Tuesday, May 24, and Franklin County Probate Judge Barry Moore wants to make sure voters know which ballot they will receive and which elections should appear on those ballots.

As always, voters will select one of three ballots at their polling place for primary elections. They include a Republican Party Primary ballot, a Democratic Party Primary ballot and a Constitutional Amendment-Only ballot.

For those voting in the Republican Primary, you may have one of two Board of Education seats on your ballot. They include Board of Education District Two (Phil Campbell School) with incumbent Terry Welborn facing Curtis Baker in the Republican Primary.

Board of Education District Four (Belgreen School) finds Carol Murphree facing Heath McKee in the Republican Primary. Incumbent Shannon Oliver is unopposed and will be the Democratic nominee in November.

Moore encourages voters to check before election day to see if their residence falls in one of those two Board of Education districts.

We are encouraging people to start looking to see which school board district they are in. We want people to know which candidates will appear on their ballots,” Moore said.

Moore's office will have five different ballots to distribute to Franklin County's 24 voting precincts.

Voters who are unsure which Board of Education district they are in may call the Franklin County Board of Registrars at 256-332-8849 for information.

Additionally, the Alabama Secretary of State website, www.sos.alabama.gov, allows residents to enter their address to determine information about their polling place, Board of Education district, etc.

Residents of the City of Russellville do not vote in Franklin County Board of Education elections.

Secretary of State John Merrill's office has also introduced a free app available to iPhone or Android cell users. Go to the App Store and search “Vote for Alabama.” The app shows a red outline of the State of Alabama with VOTE for Alabama across the map.

You can register to vote through this free app, as well as view a map of your polling place, and find out in which BOE district your residence is located.

Moore will hold a series of four poll worker classes in May to help prepare precinct workers for Election Day.
