NW-SCC students shine at state SkillsUSA Competition

Seven Salon and Spa + Barbering students at Northwest-Shoals Community College recently excelled at the Alabama State SkillsUSA Competition.
The annual competition was held in Mobile April 22-24.
NWSCC students Mya Smith, Cheyenne Taylor, Byron Perez, Breyon Weakley, Mario Cruz, Jessie Teague and Caroline Turner represented their school in Mobile.
Two of those students finished first in their competitions and will advance to the SkillsUSA National Competition in Atlanta next month.
Byron Perez placed first in the Barbering Competition. His fellow NWSCC classmate Mario Cruz finished second. Breyon Weakley finished in the top 10 in Barbering.
Jessie Teague competed in Job Skill Demonstration A and took home first place.
In the Cosmetology Competition, Taylor finished second, and Turner placed third. Smith competed in the Natural Hair Competition where she placed third.
We are very proud of our Salon and Spa + Barbering students and their success at this state competition,” said Kayla Tubb, NWSCC Salon and Spa Instructor Assistant.
