Brett Voss, who served as Russellville High School Interim Athletic Director after former Golden Tiger varsity football coach John Ritter resigned in January, is leaving Russellville City Schools, the Franklin Free Press has learned.
Voss, who served as head football coach at Russellville Middle School and RMS Athletic Director, served as RHS quarterbacks coach, offensive coordinator and associate head coach during his 13 year tenure with Russellville City Schools. Voss holds a Master’s Degree in Special Education, the subject he taught at Russellville.
Voss follows Ritter to Decatur City Schools where he has accepted a teaching and coaching position. Prior to coming to Russellville City Schools, Voss spent five years at his Alma mater, Speake High School. He was offensive coordinator for the Bobcats’ team that reached the 1A state championship game.
Voss became RHS Interim Athletic Director in January and he received positive feedback from both coaches and administrators for his active role in supporting and attending games in all sports.
Former Superintendent of Education Heath Grimes asked the RCS Board of Education to hire Voss as permanent athletic director, but, citing financial concerns related to the expiration of ESSER teaching funds, the board decided not to name a permanent athletic director until funding issues about how to fund these additional teaching units were decided.
Voss submitted his resignation letter to RCS Superintendent of Education Tim Guinn earlier this week, but the resignation was not on the RCS Board of Education’s agenda for its June 11th meeting. Guinn said the resignation would be approved at the board’s next meeting.
Voss told the FFP he enjoyed his years of teaching and coaching in Russellville City Schools but he was excited for the new opportunity in Decatur.
