Russellville Dream Center, Liberty Learning Foundation among FCCDC grant recipients

The Franklin County Community Development Commission met August 30, 2024, and approved a number of grants to local schools and non-profit agencies.

The commission, which includes Brad Bolton, Jeremy Campbell and Russellville Mayor David Grissom, meets quarterly to review grant applications. The commission is comprised of two appointees from Franklin County's legislative delegation and a rotating seat between the mayors of Russellville and Red Bay. Sen. Larry Stutts reappointed Bolton and Rep. Jamie Kiel reappointed Campbell to another four-year term.

With the most recent grants, more than $2.696 million has been returned to Franklin County since the inception of the funding. The funds come from in lieu of tax payments from the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Grant awards for the August 30th meeting included:
--$5,000 to Franklin County Arts & Humanities Council for repair of theatre marquee.
--$2,500 to Russellville Dream Center for updates to storage shed and three rooms.
--$1,000 to Franklin County Emergency Communications District for emergency lights for response vehicle.
--$5,000 to City of Russellville for purchase of server and five workstations.
--$800 to Belgreen High School volleyball for purchase of iPad and iPad stand.
--$250 to Belgreen High School for purchase of first grade classroom rug.
--$7,000 to Liberty Learning Foundation for sponsorship of program at Franklin County and Russellville City Schools.
--$500 to Phil Campbell High School drama program for purchase of supplies to start program.
--$800 to Phil Campbell Elementary School for reading intervention project.
--$2,500 to Red Bay varsity football program for helmets and pad replacement expenses.
--$1,000 to Red Bay High School for Newspapers in Education program.
--$1,000 to Vina High School for Newspapers in Education program.
--$1,500 to Phil Campbell High School for cheer program purchase of uniforms, accessories, paint and supplies.
--$2,000 to Red Bay High School for business education classroom purchase of two tables.
--$6,000 transfer to the Future Economic Development Fund.
The next meeting of the FCCDC will be November 1, 2024, at 8:30 a.m., at the Franklin County Courthouse Annex. Grant requests for the November 1, 2024, meeting must be received by a commission member before 12 p.m., October 25, 2024.
