The Russellville City Council approved the hiring of two police officers at its January 30th meeting.
The council unanimously approved Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett's recommendation to hire Jonathan Copeland and Kyle Knight.
Additionally, the council approved the temporary appointment of Shane Mansell to lieutenant in the Russellville Fire Department and Aloe Wallace to sergeant in the Russellville Fire Department. Both appointments run through April 25, 2025.
In other agenda items, the council:
--approved a resolution to make a 2002 Chevrolet Impala and a 2007 Ford F150 truck surplus property in the Russellville Fire Department and authorized the sale of said vehicles.
--promoted Kendrick Baker to the position of Heavy Equipment Operator III in the Russellville Street Department.
--approved a change in the City of Russellville's Elected Official Salary Ordinance, increasing the salary for the city's full-time mayor position from $48,000 to $65,000 a year. This change will take effect starting in the new term once a new mayor is elected in the August 2025 municipal elections.
The next regular meeting of the Russellville City Council will be February 17, 2025, with work session at 6 p.m., and meeting to follow.
