Harris announces candidacy for Russellville City Council District Five

Jamie Harris has announced his candidacy for re-election as Russellville City Councilman for District Five in the August 26, 2025, municipal election.
Harris was first elected in 2012 to represent the citizens of District Five. Harris said he hopes to continue working for job opportunities and growth in Russellville, two foundational elements of Harris’ 13 years on the Russellville City Council.
Harris attributes the city’s growth and the accomplishments of the council to a ‘team’ approach by not only city leaders, but county leaders all working together.
“We have built some strong working relationships with local, county and state-level officials in the last 13 years,” Harris said. “Working together, I’m excited about projects we have in the works and we are all working for a future that is beneficial to people of all ages in our city.”
The City of Russellville is well underway on the largest paving and infrastructure improvement program in Russellville history. The $4 million project includes numerous repaving and roadway repair projects in District Five.
During Harris’ tenure on the council, there have been more than 1,400 new jobs in Russellville representing more than $56 million in capital investments in the city.
The latest large scale project is a new multi-purpose media/broadband internet library to be built behind Russellville City Hall. The project will be primarily funded by a $3,892,000 earmark appropriation secured by Congressman Robert Aderholt. An additional $500,000 appropriation from federal funds was used to purchase much-needed police vehicles.
This is part of more than $18 million in grant projects the City of Russellville has received since 2012 through the hard work of Mayor David Grissom and the Russellville City Council.
Harris and his wife Mindy have been married 13 years. They have three sons, Bryson, Anthony and AJ.
Harris serves as Program Director for the Franklin County S.P.A.N. Program, where he has worked since 1999. The co-educational program works with at-risk youth to meet their educational and social needs. Harris is also a cattle farmer.
A member of the Franklin County Cattlemen’s Association, Harris works hard and volunteers his time to serve the community.
He is a third-generation Russellville High School graduate who attended Northwest-Shoals Community College and Auburn University. Harris earned a Management degree from the University of North Alabama in 1996.
