Franklin County Commission eyes location change for Mountain Star polling place

 

The Franklin County Commission approved moving forward with a proposed change in the Mountain Star voting precinct for 2026 elections and beyond.
If approved, voters in the Mountain Star precinct would vote at Alva Chapel Baptist Church instead of the store building currently used as the polling place.
The action was approved at the commission’s July 21st meeting.
The next step will be publication of the proposed relocation.
Other agenda items approved by the commission included:
—approval of the following personnel moves: hiring Sean Taylor as commercial truck driver in the Franklin County Solid Waste Department, hiring Dylan Henson as Roadway Maintenance Technician III, Noah Pounders, Brian Ballard and Landon Hill as temporary employees, advertising for two Roadway Maintenance Technician III and one Roadway Maintenance Technician II positions, and termination of temporary employee Leslie Montgomery in the Franklin County Highway Department, resignation of Lori Manley as appraisal clerk, hiring Jennifer Morgan as temporary appraisal clerk and advertising for appraisal clerk in the Franklin County Revenue Commissioner’s office, hiring Samantha Weeks and Greg Miller as permanent corrections officer/dispatcher with the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.
—declared a 2018 model skid steer as surplus property and approved purchase of a new skid steer.
—set a public hearing for 8 a.m., August 18th, to consider vacating Pulaski Spur Road.
—heard a request from Andrea’s Arbor asking for an additional $2,500 in funding in the FY2025-26 commission budget.
—gave Probate Judge Barry Moore authority, along with county attorney Evan Hargett to execute documents regarding a civil lawsuit filed against the county by the Town of Hackleburg seeking restitution and reimbursement for law enforcement academy training and expenses for deputy Zach Booth, who left the Hackleburg Police Department to become a deputy with Franklin County.
