As Jason Miller reflected on the 25th anniversary of Miller's Affordable Furniture in Russellville, his thoughts continued to return to his father, Terry.
“He worked at Royal Furniture for many years and after he got a lot of experience, he decided to go into business on his own,” Miller said. “25 years and three locations later, we'll still here and it's an honor to get to work with my dad everyday.”
Miller's Affordable Furniture opened its doors on February 20, 1995, at 111 East Lawrence Street. At the time, Jason was in middle school. The business would relocate to a Highway 43 location just south of Rancho Viejo Restaurant before the Miller's moved to their current location, 12845 Highway 43 seven years ago.
Jason said he's grown up around the furniture business and he loves working day-to-day with his father and their employee Jud Chaapel. Miller said his father has a simple, but successful, business model.
“Always offer our products at a fair price, and don't pressure customers into buying items. That, along with providing good customer service, are the foundations of this business,” Miller said. “For a customer to come into an atmosphere without sales pressure makes a big difference to them.”
Miller said the business' location, next to Frosty Inn, has made a positive impact on sales with the amount of traffic that drives by the store each day.
Miller's Affordable Furniture offers several lines of furniture, including Ashley and Benchcraft, and Ashley, Sleep, Superior Sleep and Siera Sleep mattresses.
For Jason and Terry, though, what drives them to enjoy their jobs more than anything else is their customers.
“We enjoy seeing our loyal customers every day. I've learned so much from my dad as far as treating people with respect and common courtesy and showing customers your appreciation for their business,” Miller said.
“This business would not be around without our customers and it would not be around without my dad. There's no doubt about that,” Miller said.
The 10,000-square foot showroom at Miller's Affordable Furniture is open Monday through Friday from 10-5 and Saturday from 10-3.
