Commission approves hiring of two new deputies

The Franklin County Commission approved the hiring of two new deputies in the Franklin County Sheriff's Office at the commission's September 21st meeting.

Brian Welch and Colt Montgomery were approved as new deputies, and a contract with the Franklin County Board of Education for two school resource officers, Regina Cantrell and Brent Wells, was also approved.

Another Sheriff's Office employee, Valerie Landers, was approved for Family Medical Leave Act and catastrophic sick leave.

Other agenda items approved by the commission included:

--hiring Rita Fisher as a part-time employee in the Franklin County Revenue Commissioner's Office.

--resignation of temporary employee Sidney Johnson and permanent employee Chris Nix in the Franklin County Highway Department.

--preliminary approval of the subdivision plat for Sandusky Acres, to be located in the Frog Pond community.

--authorizing the solicitation of bids for paving projects on College Road, County Road 175 and County Road 6.

--awarding the 2020-21 janitorial supply bid to American Paper and Tissue and certain items to One Source Office Supplies.

--the renewal of an annual $5,500 contract with the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce.

--renewal of the fee schedule for the Franklin County Health Department for services rendered in the 2020-21 year. The schedule remained the same for the second consecutive year.

--appointment of Brent Jeffreys, Lavon Duboise and Jerry Groce to the North Alabama Council of Local Governments Board.

--appointment of Mike Mayfield and Jim Berry to the E911 Board.

--a contract with the City of Russellville to provide custodial services for the Oct. 6th municipal runoff election and rental of two poll pads at a cost of $100 each.
