The Franklin County Commission approved a bid from Rogers Group, Inc., in Tuscumbia, to complete four roadway paving projects with funds from the Rebuild Alabama Act.
The 2019 act created an additional excise tax on gasoline to be used on road and bridge improvements.
Rogers Group's bid of $1,293,272.90 was the lowest responsible bid for the project, which will see repaving projects completed on Highways 25, 83, 152 and 162 in Franklin County.
Commissioners approved the bid at the May 20, 2024, meeting of the Franklin County Commission.
In other agenda items, the commission:
--hired Colby Haney as Custodian for the Franklin County Courthouse.
--approved payment of an invoice to repair the Belgreen weather siren in the amount of $2,760.
--hired Brock Britton as Utility Maintenance Technician in the Franklin County Highway Department.
--declared two dump trucks and one Maddock Ditcher as surplus property to be listed for sale with J.M. Wood.
--authorized Probate Judge Barry Moore to sign a deed conveying the former Franklin County Highway Department Shop building in Red Bay to the City of Red Bay for $120,000.
--hired Janne Vicente as part-time Probate Clerk.
--hired Kayla Tabares and Samuel Todd as Corrections Officers/Dispatchers at the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.
--approved the dissolution of the Franklin County GIS Consortium.
--presented Russellville High School senior Tait Barnes with a Resolution for his 5A boys state championship in Boys Javelin.
--approved an easement for Tombigbee Electrical Cooperative/Freedom Fiber for a metal cabinet building on property located across the street from the Franklin County Courthouse.
--approved an increase in landfill fees to be rounded up to the nearest dollar.
--authorized County Administrator Leah Mansell to gather information on the Tharptown High School Rocketry Team, which won the American Rocketry Challenge National Championship, in order to prepare a resolution honoring the team.
