Book Lovers Study Club sponsoring second annual Art Crawl this month

Calling All Artists! The GFWC Book Lovers Study Club is sponsoring its Second Annual Art Crawl on March 22 through April 6 in downtown Russellville. This project will showcase local artists, draw attention to the need for the visual arts in our community, and bring citizens to our downtown area.

The Art Crawl will feature artwork on each side of North Jackson Avenue from Grissom Cleaners to CB&S Bank (one side) and from First Baptist Church to unoccupied bank (next to Chamber of Commerce office (one side). Art work will be placed in business windows or inside, at owner’s preference.

Supporting Book Lover’s Study Club this year with the Art Crawl are Russellville Main Street and CB&S Bank.

Julie McKinney, Book Lovers member and affiliate of Russellville Main Street, stated “This event highlights the potential for economic development by showcasing unoccupied buildings and spaces while celebrating the current business community within the Main Street District.”

According to Lela Ray, Chairman of the Art Crawl, this event is open to three divisions--Child; Intermediate; and Adult--exhibiting: Painting: watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed-media;

Drawing: pastel, graphite, pen and ink, mixed media; and Photography: color; black and white; mixed media.

To enter, all you have to do is submit name of the artist and phone number. There will be only one entry per medium and one winner per division. Monetary awards and Medallions will be awarded to winners by CB&S Bank. The entry fee is $10. For additional information contact #00000a;">lelaray2000@yahoo.com.

The Book Lover’s Art Crawl Committee will collect pieces of art in the Russellville First Baptist Church Chapel on Friday, March 20 or Saturday, March 21, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. Please notify Lela Ray by email at lelaray2000@yahoo.com when you will be dropping off your artwork. Club members will contact businesses to place art pieces for display and judging.

On behalf of GFWC Book Lover’s Study Club, Russellville Main Street Board, and CB&S Bank, we appreciate the downtown property and business owners for their support.

Kara Shelnutt, Main Street Executive Director, stressed “The increased visibility of these spaces not only benefits those looking to lease or sell properties but also encourages visitors to explore downtown’s existing businesses, inspiring potential entrepreneurs to invest in our community.”
