Six pitchers combine on two-hitter as Red Bay routs Vina 11-1

Six Red Bay pitchers combined to hold Vina to just two hits on Monday afternoon, and the Tigers scored at least once in every inning on their way to beating the Red Devils 11-1.

Red Bay (6-3) finished with 15 hits, including two apiece by Alex Burroughs, Max Bullen, Kolby Bragwell, Hayden Murray, Chase Allen, Kaleb Sims and Cade McKinney. Colbie King had one hit and stole five bases.

The Tigers jumped in front early with two runs in the top of the first. Burroughs scored on a balk, and Luke Rooker came home on an RBI double by Murray. Sims started the game on the mound for Red Bay and pitched a one-two-three bottom of the first, striking out two.

The Tigers got another run in the top of the second when McKinney singled with two outs, stole a base and scored on a base hit by Burroughs. Kaleb Bragwell relieved and threw a scoreless bottom of the second, striking out one. Vina's first batter of the inning reached on an error, but Sims later threw him out trying to steal third.

Back-to-back singles by Kolby Bragwell and Murray sparked a three-run third inning for Red Bay. Sims had a two-run single, and Allen walked and scored on another base hit by Burroughs to make it 6-0. Burroughs then took over on the mound and retired the Red Devils in order in the bottom of the third, striking out two.

The Tigers tacked on another run in the top of the fourth when Bullen singled, stole second and third, and scored on a groundout by Rooker. Vina put together a walk, an error and a single to score an unearned run off Murray in the bottom of the fourth, cutting the lead to 7-1.

Red Bay got that run back in the top of the fifth when Allen singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by McKinney. Kolby Bragwell came on in relief to pitch the bottom of the fifth and struck out the side.

An RBI double by Allen and an RBI single by Sims in the top of the sixth pushed Red Bay's lead to 10-1. The Tigers scored their final run in the seventh when King was hit by a pitch and then stole three bases.

Chase Allen, Red Bay's sixth and final pitcher of the day, threw the last two innings, striking out five, walking two and allowing one hit.

Burroughs finished 2-for-2 with two RBIs, and Sims went 2-for-4 and drove in three runs. Murray was 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored, and Allen was 2-for-3 with a double, three runs and two stolen bases. Kolby Bragwell was 2-for-5 with a double, and Bullen went 2-for-4 with two steals.
