RHS boys advance with runner-up finish at sub-state golf tournament

Russellville's boys golf team shot 313 at Turtle Point in Killen on Monday, finishing two strokes back of sub-state champion Scottsboro and earning a berth in next week's state tournament.

Jaceton Murray led the way for the Golden Tigers and finished second overall with a round of 73, followed by Eric Boutwell at 75 and Brayden Bendall at 77.

Scottsboro (which got a surprising tournament-best round of 72 from its No. 4 player) and Russellville both advanced to state, which will be held next Monday and Tuesday on the Fighting Joe course at the Robert Trent Jones course in The Shoals.

Guntersville finished third at Turtle Point on Monday at 316. Brooks shot 323. Only the top two teams at sub-state move on.
