Phil Campbell, Red Bay and Russellville near top of the list in points scored and allowed

At the midway point of the 2022 high school football season, the list of state scoring leaders includes several local teams.

Phil Campbell, 4-1, ranks 13th among all Class 3A teams in points scored, at 34.8 per game.

Mars Hill, who defeated Russellville last week 31-30, is second in total scoring in 3A, with a 47 point per game average.

Lauderdale County, the Bobcats' opponent this Friday, ranks 10th with a 36 point per game average, so Friday night in Phil Campbell could be a scorefest.

Coach Kevin Barnwell's team ranks 11th in total defense among 3A teams. Bobcat opponents are scoring an average of 15.4 points per game.

Once again, Lauderdale County is also near the top of the list, fifth among 3A teams, yielding only 12.3 points per game.

The Red Bay Tigers, who travel to Tharptown this Friday, are riding a three-game win streak and are 4-1 midway through the season.

Coach Heath Childers' team ranks 20th in total points scored among 2A teams, with a 32.2 point per game average.

After Friday's game at Tharptown, Red Bay closes with Falkville, Tanner, Hatton and Phil Campbell. Each of those four teams ranks in the top 25 of Class 2A teams in points scored or points allowed, so the Tigers will be tested in the final weeks of the regular season.

Tanner, coached by former Russellville High School standout Oscar Bonds, ranks second in 2A in total points, with a 49 point per game average.

Hatton ranks 12th in total points scored, with a 38.4 per game average. Defensively, the Hornets are third-best among 2A teams, yielding only 12.2 points per game.

And Falkville is 22nd in 2A total points, at 30.8 per game.

Coach John Ritter's Russellville Golden Tigers are 14th among all 5A teams in scoring, averaging 31 points per game. Defensively, Russellville is giving up an average of 14.3 points per game, 13th best among all 5A schools.

Fairview, who will host Russellville in a Region 8 showdown in two weeks, ranks fourth in 5A scoring, with an average of 43.4 points per game. The Aggies rank 14th defensively, giving up an average of 16.2 per game.

The final five weeks of the 2022 regular season will be exciting, as Franklin County teams jockey for playoff position.
