The Russellville Middle School football team has a new man in charge, as Brett Voss was named head football coach and RMS Athletic Director by the Russellville City Board of Education.
Coach Voss will be leading a four-time consecutive North Alabama Conference Title team.
Voss brings 15 years of varsity and coordinator experience to the Russellville Middle School program.
As the Offensive Coordinator at Speake High School, Coach Voss lead an offensive attack that scored 33.5 points per game and played for the 2008 1A State Championship.
Coach Voss is a 2004 graduate of Speake High School.
As a student, Voss first wanted to go into the medical field but his high school football coach, Heath Grimes, persuaded him to pursue teaching and coaching.
Since joining the Russellville Football Program, Coach Voss has been part of 91 wins, four region championships, and 10 playoff appearances.
In 2022, Voss mentored RHS quarterback Harrison Burch to Honorable Mention All-State recognition, and 1st Team All Area and 1st Team All Region honors.
Burch threw for over 2,500 Yards and 27 TD to just four interceptions.
Coach Voss was hired by former RHS coach Michael Jackson in 2011 as a quarterback coach. He moved up through the ranks to offensive coordinator and served the last three years for Coach John Ritter as associate head coach.
“It’s not your typical middle school program. It’s right there with your typical 2A or 3A (varsity) program as far as how it’s managed,” Voss said.
“Tradition of excellence is not just a slogan. It's what we live by and I can’t wait to continue that excellence in the middle school program,” Voss added.
Voss is married to Olivia Voss from Cullman, and the couple has an 18-month old son, Barrett.
“I believe this is a great hire for our middle school football program,” Russellville School Superintendent Heath Grimes said. “Coach Voss has been with the Golden Tiger program more than 12 years and he brings a lot of knowledge and experience.
“Bringing him from inside our system and program to lead the middle school program will prove to be very beneficial, to not only the middle school program, but the varsity program as well,” he added.
