County track & field teams compete at the RVL Invitational

Five Franklin County schools—Belgreen, Phil Campbell, Red Bay, Russellville, and Tharptown—competed at the RVL Invitational hosted by Russellville High School at Golden Tiger Stadium on Monday, April 7.

In the girls’ competition, Russellville, Belgreen, and Phil Campbell placed as a team with RHS placing first with 122 total points, BHS finishing eighth with 28 points, and Phil Campbell 10th with 15.5 points.

On the boys’ side, Russellville was the lone team placing in the standings, finishing at the top with 163 points.

Belgreen’s girls had three top five individual finishers and 10 that earned a top 10 finish in their events. Alexa Gault took fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 22.89 and Lilliana Willingham finished fourth in the long jump. Briseyda Luna was the Lady Bulldogs top finisher, securing gold in the 1600-meter run with a finals time of 6:32.71.

BHS’ boys had one top 10 finisher, Wayne Shellnut, who placed 10th in the shot put finals.

The Phil Campbell Lady Bobcats had three individuals place in the top 10 in finals events, the best among them Aspen Misner, who placed fourth in the girls’ javelin final. PCHS also had one relay team finish fourth in the girls’ 4x100-meter relay.

Of the PCHS boys’ competitors, Landon Hibner was the top finisher, earning 11th place in the shot put finals.

Red Bay had just its boys’ team competing in the Invitational. The Tigers’ top placement was their 4x100-meter relay team which took fifth with a time of 47.93.

Russellville had 18 individual girl competitors earn top five finishes, including four first place finishes. Among the gold medal recipients were Ari Willingham, who was top of the podium in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.54; Daimar Valdez, winner of the 800-meter run with a time of 2:44.23; Keira Cruse, the winner of the girls’ long jump competition; and the Lady Golden Tigers’ 4x400-meter relay team, which captured gold with a time of 4:50.53.

The RHS boys’ squad had 23 top-five finishes, including four gold medal winners. EJ King placed first in the high jump, Jah Williams took first in the triple jump finals, Hunter Kastberg won the boys’ pole vault final, and Sam Wilson stood atop the podium in boys’ shot put.

Rounding out the Franklin County competitors was Tharptown, which had four top 10 finishers on the girls’ side and three on the boys’ team. THS had two competitors earn gold medals: Laikyn Gardner won the girls’ shot put competition, and Angel Garcia was the winner of the boys’ 3200-meter run with a time of 11:15.86.
